GreatNews works on Windows 2000 and later editions and you can install it in a matter of seconds. You can use the Beta version for free, but after 30 to 60 days, it will prompt you to upgrade. Fortunately, this will not restrict any functions.

Adding an RSS feed involves pasting its URL, selecting a feed group and providing a username and password, if required. You can also tick an option to retrieve the feed's properties from the Internet. The added RSS feeds are displayed in a tree structure. The software lets you create new folders and sub-folders, to organize the feeds however you want. Selecting one will display its titles and contents on the right side of the window.

GreatNews provides different filters and a search function as well, so you can find a specific article faster. To make it more comfortable, the software makes it possible to access multiple articles, on separate tabs. The best part is that GreatNews works as a web browser as well. Instead of looking for a feed's URL, you just need to click an RSS icon, on a web site and the program will instantly display options for adding that feed.

Updates are performed automatically or on demand. You may configure the application to update your news feeds at regular time intervals and to remind you to clean up your database every few days. When a feed is updated automatically, you will be notified with a pop up window. The software can also notify you if an item had no updates for a certain number of days.
